A's call up top pitching prospect Manaea to start vs Astros

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) Sean Manaea, Oakland's top pitching prospect, was recalled from Triple-A Nashville to make his major league debut on Friday night against Houston.

Manaea, a hard-throwing, 24-year-old left-hander acquired from the Royals last year in the Ben Zobrist trade, was 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA in three starts at Nashville.

The A's also recalled right-hander Andrew Triggs, optioned catcher/outfielder Matt McBride to Nashville and placed right-hander Chris Bassitt on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow strain.

Bassitt underwent an MRI on Friday, the results of which A's manager Bob Melvin said wouldn't be available until later in the day.

To make room on their 40-man roster, the A's transferred outfielder Sam Fuld (shoulder strain) to the 60-day DL.

The A's will recall right-hander Jesse Hahn from Triple-A to start Saturday against Houston in what will be his 2016 major league debut, Melvin said. Hahn, dogged by blister problems, was 0-1 with 2.04 ERA in four starts at Nashville.
