Gomez (hand) is optimistic he will be ready to play Friday in Oakland, MLB.com's Brian McTaggart reports.

Analysis:

Gomez was hit in the right hand with a pitch in Wednesday evening's contest, which ultimately resulted in the outfielder having to leave the game. He's since been officially diagnosed with a right hand contusion, and is listed as day-to-day. The Astros have a team day off Thursday, but it sounds like Gomez received favorable results from his X-rays, as there will be a reasonable chance he returns to action when Houston heads to Oakland to open up a three-game series.
