Choo (calf) resumed throwing Wednesday for the first time since being placed on the disabled list, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star Telegram reports. After his throwing session, Choo told reporters that he expects to return ahead of schedule.

Analysis:

Choo went down with a Grade II calf strain on the first Saturday of the season and was initially expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks. He is less than two full weeks removed from the injury, so there is still plenty of time for him to recover and return technically ahead of schedule. Choo took a step in the right direction by playing catch Wednesday, but he'll need to ramp up his physical activity and run the bases before setting off on a rehab assignment. Once he returns, the Rangers could have a very difficult decision on their hands regarding budding star outfielder Nomar Mazara, who was recalled to take Choo's place.
