Kyle Schwarber remains hopeful Friday's MRI results won't reveal a serious injury, but even if they do, it doesn't sound like the Chicago Cubs slugger is going to change the way he plays.

Schwarber sprained his left ankle during Thursday's game when the Cubs outfielder slammed into teammate Dexter Fowler while the two attempted to catch Jean Segura's inside-the-park homer in the second inning. Though initial X-rays came back negative, the severity of Schwarber's injury won't be known until additional testing is done on his ankle and knee.

"I can't get mad about playing hard and getting hurt," Schwarber told reporters after the Cubs' 14-6 win. "I'd rather play hard and get hurt than not play hard and not get hurt."

Schwarber remained down for several minutes before getting carted off the field, and he was later spotted in the clubhouse using crutches. Meanwhile, Fowler stayed in the game and tripled, walked twice, and reached base on a bunt single. The 6-foot, 235-pound Schwarber is just relieved Fowler emerged from the violent collision relatively unscathed.

"Good thing he's fine," Schwarber said of the lanky 6-foot-5 center fielder. "He got a little banged up, but nothing serious. I'm a big body to be running into him, but luckily he's fine."

Manager Joe Maddon said the play had "bad things written all over it," and that he would have preferred the ball to have just gone over the fence.

"The ball was literally in no man's land and it was completely right between us," Schwarber said. "I have no regrets about playing hard and getting hurt."
