Flores happy at Watford despite links to Valencia role

Quique Sanchez Flores is sad to see former club Valencia going through a period of turmoil, but he has no intentions of leaving Watford to help Los Che.

Flores, who both played for and managed Valencia, has emerged as a candidate to replace Gary Neville at the Mestalla on a permanent basis.

But the 51-year-old is enjoying success in his first Premier League season, guiding the Hornets to the semi-finals of the FA Cup and all but assuring safety in the top division. Watford was only promoted last year, with Flores replacing Slavisa Jokanovic on the bench in the summer.

"I am completely happy at Watford. I love the fans of Watford and I am really happy with every person who is working for Watford," Flores said on Thursday.

"I'm sad for the situation of Valencia, it's very strange. I'm sad for the situation of Gary Neville because every time a coach doesn't finish a project it is obviously bad news."

Watford is currently 11 points clear of the drop zone with eight matches to go. But Flores isn't taking anything for granted.

"I want to think that we are not safe because it is our ambition to win every single game," he said. "This should be the team's ambition. At the moment they maybe have the feeling they are in stand-by because it is the last month and we are in a comfortable position, and I do not like that."

A trip to Arsenal awaits Watford on Saturday.
