Real Madrid youngster Martin Odegaard uncertain where he'll play this year
Highly touted Real Madrid teenager Martin Odegaard has been linked with a possible loan move, as the 16-year-old won't be able to break into Los Blancos' first team - though he has no idea where he'll end up.
Getafe and Villareal have both been pegged as possible loan destinations for the young midfielder, but it's ultimately Madrid's decision, according to ESPN FC.
"First we have to come to the end of preseason and then we'll see," Odegaard told reporters.
"I'm very happy in Madrid and that is all I can say at the moment."
Asked about the pressure of playing for Real Madrid, Odegaard said, "It's always difficult, but I'm only 16, I'm handling things as I can and I have many years to develop as a footballer."
Odegaard's short tenure at Madrid hasn't been a fairy tale by any means. The youngster seems anxious to play first-team soccer - so much so, he ruffled feathers with his hesitancy to play for the club's reserve side.
Training during the week with the senior team and the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, the Norwegian struggled to find a role with the reserve squad, as his unwillingness to attend all of the reserve practices hindered his ability to acclimate to his teammates.
"I don't have to be in any hurry and I can play without any pressure or stress," Odegaard said.
The Norwegian was the most desired teenager in football prior to joining Madrid in 2015 from Stromsgodset. He garnered interest from many of Europe's biggest clubs before deciding on the Spanish giants, and his maturation into a world-class talent is one of the sport's most monitored situations.
