Diego Simeone expected to sign new contract with Atletico Madrid in coming days

On the heels of their qualification for the quarterfinals of the Champions League on Tuesday, Atletico Madrid look set for some more good news.

Manager Diego Simeone is expected to sign a new contract with the club in the coming days, with his sister and representative, Natalia Simeone, hinting that an official announcement is on the horizon.

"Surrounding the renewal of Simeone at the club, there will be good news in the next few days," she was quoted as saying by Spanish outlet AS.

The bench boss himself noted that the particulars of the deal have not yet been finalized, but he too suggested that a resolution is not far away.

"There is nothing resolved yet but I hope to be able to make an announcement soon," he said during his post-match press conference on Tuesday, following Atletico's shootout victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the Round of 16.

Since joining the club in 2011, the fiery Argentine has led them to unprecedented success, winning the Europa League, Copa del Rey and La Liga, while also coming within mere seconds of capturing the Champions League title last season.
