Xabi Alonso: Manuel Neuer is 'by far the best' goalkeeper I've played with
Bayern Munich midfielder Xabi Alonso would have no qualms if teammate Manuel Neuer claimed the Ballon d'Or this year.
The German, who captured the World Cup this past summer and is widely recognized as the best in the world at his craft, has been gaining steam in recent weeks as a potential candidate to usurp the ever-present duo of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi for the prestigious award.
And while Alonso admits the La Liga pair remain the favorites, he says a victory for Neuer would not come as a complete surprise.
"If Manuel won it, it'd be totally deserved," Alonso told German newspaper Bild, as reported by Marca.
"Neuer is by far the best 'keeper I've played with and is also outstanding outfield," the Spaniard continued.
A penny for your thoughts, Iker Casillas?
