Looking to escape from the depths of the relegation zone, Levante appointed Lucas Alcaraz as the club's new manager Wednesday.

The hiring comes two days after Levante, who sit 19th in the La Liga table with only five points from their opening eight fixtures, rescinded the contract of Jose Luis Mendilibar.

"We have to get the team to be effective and solvent in all facets of the game," said Alcaraz at his introductory press conference, which took place immediately after his first training session with the club.

"The path is difficult, but we must get away from the base of conviction of the day-to-day work. We have to work on three-to-four concepts in the coming days and the predisposition and experience of the players should allow us to complete them. This team has signs of identity that must be reinforced."

Alcaraz arrives at the Estadi Ciutat de Valencia boasting an impressive resume. In addition to his two well-known stints at Granada, he's also managed Almeria on two occasions as well as Dos Hermanas, Recreativo de Huelva (twice), Racing de Santander, Xerez, Real Murcia, Cordoba, and Aris Salonika.
