Barcelona's Xavi suffers 'slight' calf strain in training
Barcelona midfielder Xavi's pre-season preparations have been set back a few days, as the veteran Spaniard suffered a "slight" calf strain in training on Monday.
A statement on the club's website confirmed the injury, adding that the 34-year-old will learn the severity of his ailment in the coming days.
"Xavi Hernandez suffered a slight calf strain in his left leg during training this morning. Club doctors will decide when he can return to training over the next few days," the statement read.
Xavi, who is expected to see a reduced role with the Catalan giants this season following the summer arrival of Ivan Rakitic - and the purchase of Luis Suarez, which will likely allow Andres Iniesta to pushed back into his natural position in midfield - scored Barcelona's only goal in a 1-1 friendly draw against Nice this past weekend.
