Ronaldo tired of home-crowd jeers: 'Don't boo me here'

Cristiano Ronaldo urged Real Madrid supporters to keep quiet after hearing another chorus of boos at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The famously critical home crowd targetted Ronaldo before he struck a hat trick and sealed Madrid's progression to the Champions League semi-finals for a seventh consecutive season Tuesday against Bayern Munich.

Prior to rippling the net, the 32-year-old had endured a sloppy first half, shooting wide and neglecting to pass to free teammates. Not for the first time, fans grew impatient.

Two of Ronaldo's three tallies appeared to be offside, but despite the refereeing controversies, he still became the first player in Champions League history to reach 100 goals in the competition.

The fact he has scored 85 of those goals in Madrid's iconic white strip apparently holds little sway among the Bernabeu faithful, who have also heckled Sergio Ramos and Zinedine Zidane in the past.

"I'm not asking them to name streets after me, the only thing I ask is that they don't boo me here," the Portuguese superstar told Spanish television, according to Reuters' Richard Martin. "I want them to stop booing me because I give my best, and even when I don't score I try to help Real Madrid."

After scoring for the first time Tuesday, Ronaldo put his index finger to his lips to shoo away the boo birds. It was a fairly tame reaction to the jeering: In a match several months ago, the four-time Ballon d'Or winner was captured swearing back at fans who had the temerity to whistle at him.

"Perhaps the fans won't boo him any more, but this is the Bernabeu and it can happen from time to time and he knows that," added Zidane. "The only thing he did was to stay calm and he proved himself on the pitch.

"There are few players that are always there in the key moments, and the fans will be grateful for what Cristiano has done here."
