Barcelona's Vidal suffers 'serious' ankle injury

Barcelona's dominant display against Alaves came at a cost, as Aleix Vidal was forced to leave the match on a stretcher during the final minutes of Saturday's 6-0 triumph.

After the game, Barcelona confirmed that Vidal had suffered an ankle injury during the 85th minute at the Mendizorrotza Stadium.

Although it's too early to determine the extent of the damage caused, Barcelona technical director Robert Fernandez fears that Vidal may have suffered a "serious injury."

With his side enjoying a comfortable lead, Vidal come out on the wrong end of a challenge with Theo Hernandez as the Alavez defender's diving effort appeared to catch Vidal's right ankle.

Footage of the incident showed Vidal writhing in pain and pointing at his contorted ankle.

"I am sorry for him and for the whole team," manager Luis Enrique said. "Let’s hope it as un-serious as possible, but it’s not going to be anything good."

According to a statement on the team's website, there were no celebrations in the dressing room after the final whistle.

Afterwards, the whole Barça camp was talking far less about the impressive victory than they were about their fears for the extent of the injury suffered by their team-mate.

Vidal, 27, has set-up five goals and scored two himself during 13 appearances in all competitions this season.
