Atletico loses Gimenez, Fernandez to injuries vs. Deportivo
It was a costly first half for Atletico Madrid on Sunday, losing Augusto Fernandez and Jose Gimenez to injuries during the opening 45 minutes against Deportivo.
The Spanish side confirmed that Fernandez will undergo tests after sustaining damaged ligaments in his right knee, while Gimenez was diagnosed with an adductor injury in his right hamstring.
Fernandez was the first to leave when he called for medical attention moments after a heavy challenge from Deportivo's Celso Borges 19 minutes into the game.
Less than 20 minutes later, another challenge with a Deportivo player saw Gimenez's day come to a premature end.
Although the club has not disclosed a timetable for either player's return, the injuries will likely rule the pair out of Atletico's Champions League clash with Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
