Banega comes off two seasons with Sevilla where he made a combined 92 appearances, scoring 12 goals as his team secured consecutive Europa League titles.

He recently took part in Argentina's Copa America Centenario campaign, losing in the final to title holder Chile on penalties. The former Valencia and Boca Juniors player has 47 caps for his country, scoring four goals.

Banega will have some competition in Roberto Mancini's squad, with Felipe Melo, Gary Medel, and Geoffrey Kondogbia presenting him with a few challengers for a starting spot.

He ended his time with Sevilla in controversial fashion, picking up a red card in the Copa Del Rey final for a tackle on Neymar.
