Zidane 'relaxed' as Ronaldo set for tests on potential thigh injury

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo will have tests Thursday to determine whether he suffered a thigh injury during Wednesday's 3-0 win over Villarreal.

Ronaldo grabbed the back of his right thigh in the closing minutes of the La Liga contest at the Santiago Bernabeu. Despite having already used all three substitutions, manager Zinedine Zidane watched as his best player left the pitch.

"Ronaldo felt something just at the end. I believe it's more fright than anything serious. We'll see tomorrow, but I'm relaxed now," Zidane said, according to ESPN FC's Dermot Corrigan. "A player like Cristiano, sometimes he should rest, not finish a game, or sit it out. But he always wants to be out on the pitch.

"Sometimes, for me, today when I see him coming off the pitch, it's difficult. Important games to come, we'll see when he's back."

The 31-year-old Portuguese forward has enjoyed some of his best football of the season over the past couple of months, scoring the winning goal in El Clasico before netting a hat trick against Wolfsburg in the Champions League.

Madrid visits Rayo Vallecano on Saturday and then Manchester City on Tuesday for the first leg of the Champions League semi-final. If the injury is anything serious, Zidane could face the prospect of travelling without Ronaldo.

Los Blancos are suddenly in the hunt for multiple trophies, as they remain just a point behind Barcelona with four league matches to go.
