Luigi Di Biagio to lead Italy against Argentina, England
Luigi Di Biagio will keep tabs on Italy for the time being.
On Monday, the Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio announced that Di Biagio was put in charge of Italy's next two friendlies. The Azzurri will play Argentina in Manchester on March 23, and England in London on March 27.
Di Biagio, who represented AS Roma and Internazionale as a footballer, is the coach of Italy's under-21 team. He led the team to the semi-finals of the 2017 European Under-21 Championship.
After Italy failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, marking the first time since 1958 that the Azzurri missed out on football's most prestigious tournament, Gian Piero Ventura was sacked as the national team's manager. In February, Antonio Conte rejected the chance to meet with the FIGC and said he's intent upon seeing out his contract at Chelsea, saying, according to the Guardian's Dominic Fifield: "My intention, my will, my desire is to respect this contract. So no, I must be honest, no."
