St. Etienne interested in loan move for Chelsea striker Loic Remy

St. Etienne manager Christophe Galtier has expressed interest in a loan move for rarely-used Chelsea striker Loic Remy.

"We'll see if Chelsea will loan him to us but they would have to take care of part of his salary. I'm not sure if it's possible. But Loic is indeed on the list," Galtier told French football site But! Football Club, according to ESPN FC.

With one goal in 13 appearances in all competition for Chelsea - a consolation finish during Monday's defeat at Leicester City - Remy, 28, appears out of favour at the London club, though Jose Mourinho's sacking may offer the 31-time-capped French international a lifeline.

Despite his tenure at Chelsea floating perilously in footballing purgatory, Galtier is desperate for a striker due to the season-long absence of injured striker Robert Beric.

One of Ligue 1's more charismatic managers, the former Marseille defender Galtier sees a potential loan as a win-win situation for both player and club.

"I've the right to think that a player like him would perform well coming to us and that would allow him to attract the attention of the national team manager for the Euros."

Galtier added that "players like Josuha Guilavogui and Benoit Tremoulinas got themselves back in the running by coming to St. Etienne on loan."
