Cristiano Ronaldo isn't planning on making an appearance at football's showcase event following the 2022 World Cup in Qatar - assuming Portugal qualifies, of course.

The Real Madrid superstar admitted that the competition set to take place in just over six years will likely be his last international tournament with the Portuguese national team.

"Very good, for me," Ronaldo told beIN Sports, courtesy of ESPNFC, when asked about his thoughts on the tournament taking place in the Arab country.

"I expect Qatar could be my final World Cup. I often go on holidays there, to Qatar as well as Dubai. I am happy because for sure it will be last international tournament."

Portugal has yet to win a major trophy since Ronaldo broke into the team in 2003. The closest the country has come in that time was 2004, when it finished as the runner-up to Greece in the European Championship.

Despite his team's record, Ronaldo has managed to lead his nation to every major tournament since winning his first international cap.

Ronaldo will feature at the upcoming European Championship in France this summer, where Portugal will begin its quest to capture its first trophy on the international stage as part of a relatively easy group consisting of Austria, Hungary, and Iceland.
