Roy Hodgson gives 1st senior England call-ups to Dele Alli, Danny Ings

A pair of new faces will be representing England's national team for the final hurdle of its Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.

Manager Roy Hodgson announced the 24-man squad Thursday for England's fixtures versus Estonia on Oct. 9, and at Lithuania on Oct. 12. Among the more notable call-ups were 19-year-old midfielder Dele Alli of Tottenham Hotspur, and 23-year-old forward Danny Ings of Liverpool, both of whom had never been selected previously for international duty.

Alli, who was only signed by Tottenham from League One side Milton Keynes Dons in February, has made six Premier League appearances this season and established himself as one of the most promising youngsters at White Hart Lane, showing a comfort in the top flight of English football not normally exhibited by teenagers.

Ings, meanwhile, has made four Premier League appearances this season, and is already struggling to earn regular playing time since he joined Liverpool from Burnley during the summer transfer window, finding himself behind Christian Benteke, Roberto Firmino, and Daniel Sturridge in the Merseyside club's pecking order.

"Danny is someone we followed very closely at Burnley last year but didn't have a chance to bring him in because of the Under-21s - we never felt we could rob them to have him with us - but now is a good opportunity," Hodgson said, according to the Guardian.

"Dele is, I suppose, the more offbeat one in the sense he's so young and has only just broken into the Tottenham team, but we're very impressed with what we've seen," the English manager continued. "It's a good opportunity with so many midfielders away through injury. Who knows where he will end up? He's a very exciting talent.

"I think it's a strong squad. The game in Lithuania is the one where if any experimentation takes place, it’ll be there. It may damage our chances of getting the perfect 10 wins but I’m prepared to accept that. I won’t be sacrificing the game in any shape or form but I would argue the changes I make in Lithuania could make us stronger because certain players are confident."

England punched its ticket to Euro 2016 back in September, by virtue of a 6-0 thrashing of Europe's tiniest minnow, San Marino.

Victories over Estonia and Lithuania would allow England to end its Euro 2016 qualifying campaign undefeated and with a perfect 10-0-0 record.
