David Dunn has promptly returned to coaching following his disappointing 20-game spell at the helm of Oldham Athletic, assisting former teammate Damien Johnson in overseeing Blackburn Rovers' under-21 side.

The former midfielder was sacked at Boundary Park in January, but returns to Blackburn, where he amassed 377 appearances over two spells during his playing career.

"I don't have to say how much this club means to me. I think everyone knows what Blackburn Rovers means to me personally," said Dunn, who began his association with the club as an 8-year-old, making his professional debut 10 years later.

"So I'm just really looking forward to coming in and helping Damien. We have a good relationship anyway, so that should be fine and obviously I'm looking forward to learning from the manager (Paul Lambert), as well as Alan (Irvine) and Rob (Kelly), who are some of the best coaches around."

Both a creative and industrious presence in the middle for the Lancashire outfit, Dunn was a firm fan favourite at Ewood Park over both of his stays. He is perhaps unfairly remembered by many for his failed attempt at flamboyance during his three-and-a-half years with Birmingham City, though.

Dunn will assume duties in the technical area for the young Rovers' visit of Swansea City next Monday at Leigh Sports Village.
