David De Gea could return to action for Midtjylland visit
David De Gea could be set for a prompt return from his freak knee injury sustained in the warm-up before last week's clash with FC Midtjylland.
The Manchester United shot-stopper sat out his side's trip to Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup fifth round on Monday, but is in contention to bolster Louis van Gaal's options for this Thursday's Europa League return leg against Midtjylland at Old Trafford.
In his stead, Sergio Romero stepped into the spot vacated between the sticks over the past two matches, and was particularly impressive in the first leg in Denmark. A 2-1 loss was widely dubbed as one of United's worst outings in Europe, but on the balance of play actually flattered the Stretford outfit thanks to Romero's heroics.
Following De Gea's failed move to Real Madrid last summer, he was finally given his season's bow in September. He has looked unscathed by all the talk of his future, replicating the form over the previous seasons that has seen him become one of the most respected goalkeepers on the continent.
With Monday's FA Cup progression at the Greenhous Meadow, Van Gaal's likelihood of remaining at helm until the end of the season increases further amid rumours of Jose Mourinho being engineered as his successor.
