Report: Joleon Lescott draws LA Galaxy interest

Invariably engrossed by the prospect of bringing yet another Premier League veteran to the StubHub Center, five-time MLS champions LA Galaxy are keen on recruiting Aston Villa centre-back Joleon Lescott.

Bruce Arena's lot are in the market for a replacement for lynchpin defender Omar Gonzalez, who made the switch to Mexican side Pachuca on Dec. 22, prompting inquiries about Lescott's future at Villa Park, according to Peter O'Rourke of ESPN FC.

Lescott's contract with Villa expires in June 2017, after the 26-time capped England international made the 20-minute drive to the Birmingham side in the summer from West Bromwich Albion on a two-year deal.

The 33-year-old made 15 league appearances for Remi Garde's floundering Villains, as he and centre-back partner Micah Richards have been mired in a disastrous campaign, with the club destined for relegation on eight points through 20 matches, seven adrift of 19th-place Sunderland.

The Galaxy are said to be monitoring Lescott's tenure at the club with the near-certainty of relegation on the horizon.

Boasting over 500 top-flight appearances with Villa, the Baggies, Wolves, Everton, and Manchester City, Lescott's resume would be akin to current Galaxy standouts Robbie Keane, Steven Gerrard, and reported full-back recruit Ashley Cole.
