5 players poised for a move in the January transfer window

The January transfer window has slowly crept open and Premier League clubs have awoken from buy-and-sell hibernation at long last. With the window open for activity, some players are poised for an exit or a signing with England's top-flight sides.

Here are 5 footballers in position for a Premier League move in the next month:

Mathieu Debuchy

Arsenal right full-back Mathieu Debuchy had all the makings of a Premier League regular. The French international put in a solid debut campaign with Newcastle and, coupled with a good showing at Euro 2012, was projected to be one of the top young full-backs in the world.

That was certainly the pattern of thinking when Arsenal picked him up in 2014, but injuries, coupled with the emergence of Spanish full-back Hector Bellerin, have reduced Debuchy to a bench role, and a move away from the Emirates seems imminent.

"It's not impossible Debuchy will leave," Arsene Wenger said. "I'm happy for him to stay, but we'll see."

There are some reports that a move to West Brom is nearing completion, while whispers elsewhere have him headed to Roma. In either case, it seems a safe bet that Debuchy will hit the turf in a new shirt by the end of January.

Loic Remy

Chelsea forward Loic Remy, like Debuchy, was projected to be a top contributor out of Ligue 1. But the French striker has stagnated on the bench at Stamford Bridge and a move away, whether permanently or on loan, is inching closer and closer.

Remy hasn't had much playing time with the Blues and, more concerning, wasn't counted on when Diego Costa underwent a poor spell of form.

Relegation-bound Aston Villa is reportedly looking to bring Remy in on loan, with manager Remi Garde saying, "Loic is special because he knows the country and the league and he would be an interesting player for the team. He is part of some players I'll try to attract to Aston Villa for sure."

Charlie Austin

Last season, Queens Park Rangers forward Charlie Austin found the back of the net 18 times, a respectable haul for a Premier League scorer. It wasn't enough to keep QPR out of relegation, and now this highly touted English forward is wallowing away in the English Championship.

While Austin is currently dealing with injury, the rumour mill has him heading to either Southampton or Crystal Palace; it'll have to happen in January, though, as Austin's contract expires at the end of the season, and QPR needs the cash injection more than a sidelined striker.

Steve Mandanda

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has kept the faith of both Jurgen Klopp and Brendan Rodgers before him this season, but that appears set to end shortly as the Reds seek to acquire Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda.

Liverpool faces some competition from Aston Villa but looks likely to complete the signing on profile alone.

Steven Naismith

This transfer seems more inevitable than poised, but all the same, Everton midfielder Steven Naismith looks set to swap the Toffees for the Canaries in joining Norwich City.

The Scottish international also has interest from, you guessed it, Aston Villa, but Norwich appears to be closing in on the signing.
