Cech: Arsenal has a chance to win Premier League

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech believes his side can win the Premier League this season, despite several injuries in key positions.

The Gunners are just two points behind surprising leader Leicester City, winning eight of their past 11 league matches. They have been able to produce results - most recently the 2-1 win over title contender Manchester City - without midfielders Francis Coquelin, Santi Cazorla, and Jack Wilshere, as well as forwards Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck.

"We've been through the season with plenty of problems," Cech told the BBC. "Everything isn't going as smoothly as we would like it to. We can't avoid injuries - sometimes you have more, sometimes you have less - but we showed that even with the unlucky injuries at the moment that we manage to win games.

"I believe we will benefit from players coming back into the team, once they are fit.

"The season is long and anything can happen. But if we stay where we are until March or April, then we have the chance to win the league."

Cech made the £10-million switch from Chelsea to Arsenal in the summer, with former teammate John Terry predicting that Cech would save between 12 and 15 points for his new club.

He has kept seven clean sheets this season - equalling the Premier League record with his 169th on Dec. 13 at Aston Villa - but it's not the most important thing to him.

"If we played a 0-0, I'd have the clean sheet record. But we'd only have one point. This is not about the clean sheet record, this is about winning three points," he told Arsenal's Facebook page. "If we win every game 2-1 from now on until the end of the season, we will win the title. And I'd rather have the title than the clean sheet record.

"It is a great personal achievement to equal the record but I hope it can come with a win."
