Report: Jose Mourinho wants Manchester United to be his next employer
Jose Mourinho, unemployed, reportedly wants to work at the club whose transfers he regularly hijacked from Stamford Bridge.
According to Miguel Delaney of ESPN FC, Mourinho, who parted company with Chelsea on Thursday "by mutual consent," desires a job at Manchester United. It doesn't end there, though, as representatives of "The Special One" have apparently already taken the initial steps to make such an appointment happen.
Amid criticism of Louis van Gaal that follows United's humiliating elimination from the Champions League, there is speculation that the Dutch manager may not see out his contract, which expires at the end of the 2016-17 season. The club's supporters will obviously remember that Mourinho wanted to take over at Old Trafford when Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down as manager in 2013, but Delaney writes that the hiring fell through because his "football style just didn't fit in with United."
Of course, the manager landscape was significantly different two-and-a-half years ago, and Jorge Mendes, Mourinho's agent and "the most powerful man in football," is known for possessing a strong relationship with Ed Woodward, United's CEO.
