Report: Liverpool, Mignolet close to new contract

Simon Mignolet is edging towards extending his stay at Anfield as negotiations with Liverpool are expected to produce a new contract before the new year.

Negotiations between the sides have progressed quickly and Liverpool is prepared to modify weekly wages, reports Andy Hunter of The Guardian. Mignolet's deal pays him £60,000 a week.

The Belgian goalkeeper currently has 2 1/2 years left on a contract signed in 2013 when he joined Liverpool from Sunderland.

Although rumours earlier in the season suggested new manager Jurgen Klopp was contemplating a move for Stoke City netminder Jack Butland, the former Borussia Dortmund gaffer quickly gave Mignolet, and backup Adam Bogdan, a vote of confidence and insisted he's not looking to add another 'keeper.
