Victor Valdes to leave Manchester United in January, agent says
Victor Valdes' rocky tenure at Manchester United has long seemed destined to end, and on Wednesday, the goalkeeper's agent claimed the Spaniard will indeed depart the club in the coming months.
Valdes, who has made just two appearances since joining the Red Devils as a free agent in January, has endured a strenuous relationship with manager Louis van Gaal; the Dutchman opted to not even give him a squad number for the 2015-16 campaign.
In an interview with Radio Marca, Valdes' agent, Gines Carvajal, said the former Barcelona shot-stopper will be plying his trade elsewhere in January.
"He’ll have a chance (to play) in January, wherever he goes. He needs to go to a place he feels is right for him," Carvajal said, as translated by the Guardian.
While a potential destination is unknown at this point, Carvajal did note that he doesn't expect Valdes to return home.
"He won’t be coming to Spain, unless he decides otherwise," the agent said.
Newcastle has been mentioned as a possibility, in light of Tim Krul's season-ending knee injury, while Chelsea was also thought to have considered bringing Valdes aboard as added cover between the posts - though the latter now seems unlikely with the recent signing of Marco Amelia.
