Report: Kompany to play for Belgium despite Manchester City's concerns

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is expected to play at least 60 minutes of Belgium's final Euro 2016 qualifier against Israel on Tuesday, Sky Sports reports.

The 29-year-old centre-back has missed the past five matches for City with a calf injury. He has since trained with the Belgian national team, however, and appears ready to start for the first time in a month.

The decision to call up Kompany didn't sit well with City manager Manuel Pellegrini, who insisted his star defender couldn't play at all during the international break.

In the end, City made no request to remove Kompany from the roster, according to Sky, and Belgium coach Marc Wilmots says he knows what he's doing with the player.

"It's not a question of whether I agree with Pellegrini - it has been my purpose for 10 days," Wilmots told reporters. "It is the last game at home and Vincent wants to play."

City has already lost Sergio Aguero and David Silva to injuries during World Cup and Euro qualifiers, respectively. Full-back Aleksandar Kolarov also limped off the pitch with an apparent hamstring injury during Serbia's 2-1 loss to Portugal.
