Newcastle's Mitrovic pledges to control himself following 3-match suspension

Aleksandar Mitrovic is adamant that his streak of madness is behind him, and promises he'll conform to the Premier League's rules.

His promise to behave follows a physical start to life in England that's seen match officials deliver two yellows and a red card in his direction for daft challenges.

"It has been a very difficult few weeks," Mitrovic told reporters following his return to action during a 2-2 draw against Chelsea.

"It is always very difficult when you have to sit and watch a game, but you cannot help your team-mates. I am back now though, and I have learned a lot from the last few weeks. I will never do the same thing again."

Throughout his career, Mitrovic - who joined Newcastle from Anderlecht for £12.7 million during the summer transfer window - has seen referees produce six red cards and just under 50 yellows for reckless challenges.

"Maybe it would have been different in other countries, but these are the rules and I know I cannot break them. I am sure I am not the first or last player to get a red card, but the rules are the rules here and I need to respect them.

"I can control myself. I got the red card (against Arsenal), but I wanted to take the ball, I didn’t want to kick anybody."

While Mitrovic is guilty of the fouls he's received, there's a case to be made that part of the blame can be put on opponents who attempt to take advantage of the Serbian international and his short temper.

"It’s very difficult when you get a lot of kicks from defenders, but you have to stay calm and think about how to score goals," he said.

"They kick you all game, but that is my position and I have to deal with it. I need to keep working on the mental side of things, but I have shown I can deal with all of that."
