Manchester United 'keeper David De Gea proud to wear captain's armband

Manchester United's star shot-stopper David De Gea appears to be re-acclimated to Old Trafford following a chaotic summer rife with conjecture surrounding a potential move to Real Madrid.

The Spanish international has resumed his duties as United's first-choice 'keeper, supplanting summer signing Sergio Romero. In doing so, he's once again become the first name on Louis van Gaal's team sheet each week.

Thursday, De Gea tweeted to share his joy about being handed the captain's armband during the club's midweek 3-0 League Cup victory over Ipswich Town.

Wayne Rooney was taken off 10 minutes from time with the result all but sealed. He initially handed the armband to former Bayern Munich legend Bastian Schweinsteiger, who then saw it fit to bestow the honour on the lanky netminder.

With the ink barely dry on a new four-year deal, De Gea appears to have returned to form after missing out on the side's opening weeks, keeping his first clean sheet of the season in the victory over the Tractor Boys.
