Togo coach says Adebayor no longer welcome on national team
Emmanuel Adebayor will never again feature for his country, says Togo coach Tom Saintfiet, as he failed to respond to a call-up for an African Cup qualifier.
Saintfiet said Adebayor did not notify anyone from Togo about his intentions, adding that "it is clear that he is a player who does not want to play for his country anymore."
The 31-year-old striker played for Togo in a 2-1 win over Liberia in June, but not before losing his captaincy. Adebayor said he'd "rather quit the team than be sidelined" after the victory and admitted he would never stand as captain for Togo again.
He then stood up his country for the Sept. 4 qualifier against Djibouti.
"If you are dating a woman who does not want to respond positively, then you must look for another woman," said Saintfiet.
Adebayor has yet to play at all this season for Tottenham, which excluded him from its senior squad. He also blocked a transfer away from Spurs before the deadline earlier this month.
