Milan does not have an obligation to buy the striker at the end of the loan deal, but Liverpool will pay a part of the player's wages. There is no fee involved for the actual loan.

Balotelli described the rejuvenation he feels heading into his second stint with the Rossoneri as a chance for him to prove he's capable of shedding his reputation as an immature player.

"I feel like someone who has just put the first part of his career to one side. Played and lived like a boy. But the ‘match’ is not over… Now I will have my say and live like a man," he told the La Gazzetta dello Sport, courtesy of AC Milan's website.

"I know that many people don’t believe in my comeback. But I have to try. And have the belief that I can do it.

"I have a promise to keep to myself, my family, Milan, Mihajlovic, Raiola and all those that want the best for me… I know that I cannot make any more mistakes."

The move back to Italy comes a year after Balotelli left Milan for Liverpool in a £16-million transfer.

"I'm grateful to Liverpool FC and Liverpool fans for the time and opportunities you gave me," Balotelli wrote on his Facebook page. "It’s not a goodbye but rather a farewell. I’ll be supporting you guys all the way in every competition ... unless you face AC Milan."

About 100 fans welcomed the player at the club's headquarters on Tuesday, and he later participated in full training sessions with both new and old teammates.

He admitted the move back to Milan caught him by surprise and that the process progressed quicker than he anticipated following his frustrating time at Anfield.

"It all happened so quickly. (Mino) Raiola told me on Saturday. I knew I would find another team because I am not finished. But I am grateful to Milan, because, to tell the truth, I did not expect them to bring me back. The ‘yes’ from Berlusconi was the biggest surprise of them all," the striker said.

Balotelli went on to explain the difficulties he faced with Liverpool under manager Brendan Rodgers and how the Welsh boss' scheme didn't suit his playing style.

"My time at Liverpool? I take my responsibilities, but the system chosen by Rodgers wasn’t suited to my characteristics," he added.

The Rossoneri initially acquired the Italian international from Manchester City in January 2013 for £17 million. Back then, fans let off flares and chanted with Balotelli outside a Milan restaurant. The celebrations turned into rioting, with one police officer hospitalised.

Balotelli arrives this time with much more to prove after scoring just one goal in 16 Premier League appearances last season.
