Newcastle manager Carver: 'I still think I'm the best coach in the Premier League'

Two wins in 16 fixtures.

That's an abysmal record by any standard, and one that shouldn't allow a manager to feel like he's the best in the Premier League.

However, try telling to that to Newcastle United's John Carver, who holds two wins, three draws and 11 losses to his name since he took over at St. James' Park in January.

"I still think I'm the best coach in the Premier League," Carver said, according to Louise Taylor from the Guardian. "That's what I think. Now there's nothing wrong with that, but I still do. If I have the right tools, I can do the job. I'm doing the job to the best of my ability at the moment and I'll continue doing that for the next three weeks."

Carver, who replaced Alan Pardew, is enduring a torrid spell at Newcastle. After the club entered the calendar year hovering in the middle of the Premier League table, they now find themselves sitting 15th and only two points above the relegation zone having accumulated the worst record in the league since Jan. 1.

Talks were held between Carver and managing director Lee Charnley after Newcastle's catastrophic 3-0 defeat at Leicester City on Saturday, but it was subsequently confirmed that Carver will continue as the club's manager until the end of the season.
