Alex Palou: Awarded Texas Pole

Palou will start on the pole for the Genesys 300 Saturday night at Texas Motor Speedway, as the starting grid was set by championship entrant points after weather delays earlier today forced the cancellation of NTT P1 Award qualifying, IndyCar.com reports.

Analysis:

Persistent rain would wash out pole qualifying and IRL would be forced to set the field by driver points. Palou gets the nod as the early-season points leader after two events. He'll roll off P1 in the first race of this weekend's Texas doubleheader. Palou will hope to show the speed he used to win at Barber Motorsports Park two weeks ago.
