Report: Manchester United consider swapping Hernandez for Southampton's Clyne

Manchester United appear to be exploring creative routes in an effort to bring Nathaniel Clyne to Old Trafford.

The club are reportedly mulling the idea of a swap deal for the Southampton right back, with striker Javier Hernandez expected to be offered as part of the deal, sources tell ESPNFC.

Top Premier League clubs have been linked with the young English international for much of the season, with Chelsea joining United in recent weeks after Clyne reportedly declined discussing a new Southampton deal until the season is over.

Although his current contract doesn't expire until the summer of 2016, it's believed that Clyne is eager to compete in the Champions League. Southampton looked set to do so for a large portion of the season, but suffered a dip in form that has them four points behind Manchester City for the final spot in the lucrative tournament.

Southampton could be swayed to consider United's offer of Hernandez. The Mexican, who is currently on loan with Real Madrid, has struggled to break into the starting squad since his arrival in 2010 and could benefit from a move to the St. Mary's Stadium.

Clyne's possible departure in the summer could be paired with another massive loss for the club. Morgan Schneiderlin expressed his desire to play Champions League football as well and could seek a move away from Southampton after his request was denied last summer.
