Eden Hazard: Kevin De Bruyne is good enough for Chelsea

As Kevin De Bruyne continues to shine in the Bundesliga, Chelsea fans are left to wonder what could have been.

Eden Hazard is arguably Chelsea's most talented player, but even he thinks about the talented midfielder that was sold to Wolfsburg over a year ago when manager Jose Mourinho failed to find consistent playing time for De Bruyne.

“He is a great player," Hazard told L'Equipe. "Mourinho decided to let him go and not play him.

“It was not my decision, even though I know very well that he could play at Chelsea because he has tremendous qualities."

The two have played together at the international level since 2009 when they were both members of the Belgium under-19 squad. They've since progressed to the senior level, and will play a critical role in the country's quest to qualify for the Euro 2016 tournament.

Their time at Chelsea, however, was short-lived as De Bruyne only made three appearances between a pair of loan moves away from the club before he was sold in January 2014.

De Bruyne is thriving in Germany since the move. The 23-year-old leads the club with 16 assists in the Bundesliga and trails Bas Dost for the goal lead with nine. He also helped guide them to the quarterfinal stage of the Europa League, where they're paired with Napoli.

Although he was given few opportunities to make a name for himself at Stamford Bridge, Hazard feels the relaxed atmosphere at Wolfsburg is a driving force behind De Bruyne's success.

“I think at Chelsea, you have more pressure than Wolfsburg. It's a shame he's gone but he'll have a successful career.”
