Everton climbs clear of relegation zone with Newcastle win
LIVERPOOL, England (AP) Everton moved six points clear of the relegation zone with a 3-0 victory over 10-man Newcastle in the Premier League on Sunday.
James McCarthy set Everton on its way to just a second win in 13 league matches by netting the opener in the 20th minute.
Romelu Lukaku doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the 56th after Aaron Lennon was tripped by Newcastle striker Yoan Gouffran.
Newcastle was reduced to 10 men three minutes later when Fabricio Coloccini was red-carded for a foul on Lennon.
Ross Barkley popped up with a third in the 90th, just his second goal of the campaign.
Everton is in 14th place, and Newcastle is four points higher in 11th.
