Denny Hamlin: Wins iRacing Homestead Event

Hamlin edged Dale Earnhardt Jr. in a door-banging final push to the checkered flag in Sunday's eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series debut event, the Dixie Vodka 150, at iRacing's virtual Homestead-Miami Speedway, NASCAR Wire Service reports.

Analysis:

The opening round of the iRacing Pro Invitational Series was a wreckfest for the first 50 laps. However, drivers would get accustomed to their new virtual surroundings and settle down to racing in the last half of the 100-lap event. The final 10 laps would see a wild shoot out where Earnhardt Jr. would take the lead from Timmy Hill, then Hamlin would catch them both on the last lap. Hamlin would go to the outside in turn 4 and force the No. 8 machine to the bottom. The door-banging finish would see the No. 11 machine edge Earnhardt at the finish line in a dramatic finish. Hamlin pledged $100 per lap led and $5,000 for winning the race for a total of $6,400 to the NASCAR Foundation to assist Miami-area families affected by the COVID-19 virus.
