Vincent Kompany is dealing with an inevitable barrage of criticism after being directly responsible for Barcelona's two goals at Manchester City on Tuesday.

Former Manchester United midfielder and ITV pundit Paul Scholes even stated after the match that he believes Kompany is suffering from a dip in form, saying, "I think he's struggled the last few weeks - he's struggled tonight as well." And few would disagree following what was undoubtedly one of his worst defensive outings of the season.

However, Kompany defended his performance, insisting Wednesday that the criticism doesn't bother him and has to be expected whenever a result doesn't go the way a club's supporters would like.

"It is simply when the results go (well) everybody will say I am performing well, as long as the results don't go our way people will say there are several players on the team not performing," Kompany said, according to Jamie Jackson of the Guardian. "All this is part of the game and it doesn't bother me at all."

Kompany will have a shot at redemption when City travel to Barcelona for the second leg of their Champions League clash on March 18.
