Report: Manchester United to grant Darren Fletcher free transfer this month

The longest-tenured player at Manchester United looks to be on his way out.

Multiple reports suggest that the Red Devils will grant midfielder Darren Fletcher a free transfer in order to allow the Scot to leave this month, instead of waiting for the summer, at which point his contract will expire.

Fletcher, who turns 31 on Sunday, has started just five matches under Louis van Gaal this season. Instead of wasting him away on the bench, the club seems willing to forego any transfer fee in order to allow Fletcher to enjoy some immediate playing time elsewhere.

West Ham are the favorites to land the midfielder, though Valencia has also shown an interest.

Fletcher has been with Manchester United since he was 11 years old, making his debut in 2003 and going on to compile 342 appearances with the club in all competitions.
