Report: Manchester United will not make any stop-gap signings in January

Reuters

Go big, or go home.

That seems to be the thinking at Old Trafford this month, as ESPN FC is reporting that Manchester United will not be making any stop-gap transfers this month.

Should the club be unable to sign the big name players they are rumored to be interested in, then Louis van Gaal will have to guide his current squad to a Champions League place without any reinforcements.

Miguel Delaney of ESPN FC explains:

Club sources state that they initially drew up a list of 12 potential signings for this window, with those players divided into "top priority" and "secondary priority." The top targets are by now well known, and include the likes of Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels - who has played down talk of a move - and Southampton right-back Nathaniel Clyne.

Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman is another name that has been linked with a transfer, though the Italian club have always maintained that they will not let the Dutchman leave this season.
