Matt Kenseth: Reunion with Roush official

Roush Fenway Racing officially introduced Kenseth as a new member of its roster Wednesday, Zach Albert of NASCAR.com reports.

Analysis:

While Kenseth never publicly committed to retiring, the prevailing thought was that the 46-year-old would step away from racing when his term with Joe Gibbs Racing expired following the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway last November. Though the JGR team has since moved on with Erik Jones to round out its roster, Kenseth drew interest from Roush, the team with whom he began his career at the Cup level in 1999. Kenseth, who tallied 24 premier-series victories and two Daytona 500 titles while racing for Roush through 2012, will make his return to the team May 12 at Kansas Speedway. He'll man the No. 6 Ford Fusion as part of an unspecified split schedule with Trevor Bayne and receive sponsorship from Wyndham Rewards.
