Arsenal's Mesut Ozil thanks fans for support during knee injury recovery, denies exit rumours

Reuters

Reports suggesting Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil is seeking a move away from the club surfaced last week as the German international recovers from a partially torn lateral collateral ligament in his left knee.

Ozil, however, shot down the rumours Monday after thanking his supporters for their well-wishes during a difficult time.

The Daily Mail's Rob Shepherd reported Ozil, who's experienced a turbulent tenure since Arsenal paid Real Madrid 42.5 million pounds for his services in 2013, wanted a transfer away from Emirates Stadium, and German champions Bayern Munich were the likely destination.

The World Cup-winning midfielder is expected to miss 10-12 weeks because of the injury he picked up in Arsenal's Premier League match against Chelsea on Oct. 5.
