Arsenal's Nacho Monreal will not play in Champions League match vs. Borussia Dortmund

After watching Mathieu Debuchy suffer an ugly ankle injury on Saturday that is expected to cost him roughly two months of the season, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger confirmed that he will be without another defender for Tuesday's Champions League contest against Borussia Dortmund.

There has been no word on the ailment that is plaguing Monreal, nor how long he will be out of the lineup.

With the Spaniard joining Debuchy on the sidelines, it leaves Wenger short of bodies in defense going into the first match of the club's Champions League campaign - and a busy part of their schedule in general.

As a result, Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny will undoubtedly keep their place in central defense, while it is expected that Calum Chambers - despite the unspecified issue mentioned above - will shift to right-back, with Kieran Gibbs making his return from a hamstring injury on the opposite side of the pitch.

While you never want to see a player suffer an injury, regardless of the severity, perhaps not having Monreal is a blessing for Wenger, who watched as the fullback struggled mightily against Manchester City.
