Defending Premier League Golden Boot winner Harry Kane admits that he is monitoring the progress of current goals-leader Romelu Lukaku, and the Tottenham star is refusing to concede defeat to his Everton counterpart.

After besting Jamie Vardy and Sergio Aguero by a goal to lead the Premier League with 25 tallies a year ago, Kane trails Lukaku this season by 24 to 20 with just a half-dozen of matches left.

Naturally, the England international admits that he's following the exploits of the Toffees' goal-machine.

"It’s hard not to," Kane told Tottenham's official website ahead of this weekend's FA Cup semi-final clash with Chelsea.

Player Goals Min./Goal # of shots
Romelu Lukaku (Everton) 24 117 73
Harry Kane (Spurs) 20 100 62
Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal) 19 138 72
Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Man Utd) 17 143 83
Diego Costa (Chelsea) 17 157 68
Sergio Aguero (Man City) 17 121 83
Dele Alli (Spurs) 16 158 59

"As a striker you want to be top scorer in the league, no doubt about it."

Kane notched his 20th goal of the season last weekend in a 4-0 drubbing of Bournemouth, and that tally put the Spurs star in exclusive company, joining Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, and Ruud van Nistelrooy as the only players to score 20 goals in three consecutive Premier League seasons.

Even with the individual honours, Kane admits that the primary concern is closing the four-point gap on table-topper Chelsea and finishing the campaign on a high note.

"Lukaku has been doing well and it’s a good competition but the main thing is we're winning games," Kane added.

Everton has five matches left to Tottenham's six, and despite having just two home fixtures left on the schedule, versus rival Arsenal and Manchester United, Kane will get a chance to boost his goal totals against lower-half sides Crystal Palace, West Ham, Leicester City, and Hull City.

"I’ve a little eye on the run-in and if I can get a few more, we’ll see what happens!"
