Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny required a half-time substitution during Sunday's match against Manchester City because of an Achilles injury, manager Arsene Wenger confirmed to reporters.

"I don't know how long he will be out for," Wenger added.

Gabriel replaced Koscielny for the second half of an eventual 2-2 draw, leaving the Gunners stuck in sixth place.

But the long-term health of Arsenal's standout centre-back could affect the team's fortunes ahead of its final 10 Premier League matches.

It's unclear when or how Koscielny suffered the injury, but he appeared to go into a tackle awkwardly in the lead-up to City's second goal:

The 31-year-old has a history of Achilles trouble, dating back to an October 2014 flare-up on international duty with France. Wenger mentioned at the time that Koscielny had been struggling with "chronic tendinitis of both Achilles tendons for several months," and the player subsequently missed the next two months of action.

A scan in the coming days will reveal the extent of the damage and whether Arsenal can expect Koscielny to feature prominently in the remaining fixtures.
