Three giants of the English game, linked as one.

Manchester United's thrilling 3-2 victory in the EFL Cup final over Southampton on Sunday saw manager Jose Mourinho capture the fourth League Cup title of his trophy-laden career, bringing the Portuguese tactician level with iconic bench bosses Sir Alex Ferguson and Brian Clough for most all time.

"I am a bit emotional. It is not easy to win titles so many times - there is pressure I have put myself under throughout my career," said Mourinho, who also became the first United boss to win a major trophy in his first season at Old Trafford.

"The cup is for the players. My last cup here, with Chelsea against Tottenham, was emotional too."

As he alluded to, Mourinho has now hoisted the League Cup with multiple sides; Ferguson (Manchester United) and Clough (Nottingham Forest) captured all four of their crowns with one club.

"It's special. And if I don't get emotional, then it is time to go home," the polarising manager added.

The well-travelled Mourinho, 54, has now won 24 titles throughout his career.

With the Red Devils still competing on four fronts - though the Premier League title is surely out of reach - he'll certainly be hoping to add to that tally by season's end.
