Pochettino: Walker's shove on Sterling 'not a penalty'

Mauricio Pochettino's bias was on full display following Saturday's entertaining, controversial 2-2 draw between his Tottenham side and Manchester City.

The marquee moment in the contest came in the 76th minute, when, with the Citizens leading 2-1, Raheem Sterling raced clean through on goal. An apparent shove in the back by Kyle Walker put the City attacker off balance, scuppering the opportunity.

Seconds later, Spurs raced down the other end and hit the equaliser.

Andre Marriner's decision not to award a penalty to City was the primary talking point after the match, but Pochettino was quick to dismiss the suggestion that the home side should have been awarded a spot kick.

"For me it was not a penalty," he said. "That is England, and you know it is the same if we complain Leroy Sane hand-balled for the first goal. I thought it was handball, but it's difficult for the referee.

"In the game there are lots of pushes in England that aren't a foul and it must be the same inside and outside the box."

For his part, though, Walker seemed to admit that he perhaps got away with a foul by using an outstretched arm to thwart Sterling.

"I wasn't really getting it otherwise," he told BT Sport after the match, per ESPN FC. "I was just trying to put him off as much as possible.

"Hugo put him off as well and made the save and we hung on for the draw, which I think we deserved."
