Report: Brentford snubs West Ham's £12.5M bid for Scott Hogan

Brentford is standing firm on its £15 million asking price for striker Scott Hogan.

West Ham United previously entered the bidding at £9 million, then upped it to £10 million before the weekend. Now the Irons' latest attempts to sign the 24-year-old have seen a £12.5-million offer get turned down by the Championship club, reports the Guardian's Ed Aarons.

The slow negotiations from West Ham are in line with reports of its rather modest £5-million valuation of Hull City's star man Robert Snodgrass, as well as the £6-million bid to re-sign Jermain Defoe that was "immediately" rebuffed by Sunderland.

The latest fruitless attempts by the West Ham board to strengthen Slaven Bilic's ranks follow a summer of vast expenditure that has yielded little in results. The club is positioned a disappointing 13th in the Premier League, and the likes of Simone Zaza, Sofiane Feghouli, and Jonathan Calleri could be leaving after just a few months in Stratford.

Hogan, however, would likely bring something different to the West Ham strikeforce. He's shown a superb knack for finding the onion bag, with 14 strikes in 25 Championship outings, often creating gulfs of space behind defences with his lightning speed.

In addition to West Ham, Hogan has apparently attracted admiring glances from Watford and Newcastle United.

There have been signs that Brentford boss Dean Smith is preparing for life without Hogan too, with the frontman sitting out last weekend's 5-1 thumping of Eastleigh in the FA Cup. Another striker was signed on Wednesday too, but 18-year-old Henrik Johansson - the grandson of Brazil's two-time World Cup winner Garrincha - will initially work with the Bees' B Team.
