EFL Cup semi-final draw: United gets Hull, Southampton meets Liverpool
Manchester United will take on Hull City in a two-legged semi-final in January, while Liverpool and Southampton will meet to determine the other finalist in the 2016-17 EFL Cup showpiece.
Wednesday's draw means eternal rivals United and Liverpool could battle for silverware Feb. 26. at Wembley Stadium.
But before that, they will have to negotiate a tough pair of matches.
United will host Hull at Old Trafford on Jan. 9, with the reverse fixture scheduled for Jan. 23 at KCOM Stadium.
Liverpool first travels to St Mary's, before entertaining Southampton on the same dates.
United eased into the last four with a routine 4-1 victory over West Ham. Goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Anthony Martial put Jose Mourinho's side in a good position to nab a trophy early in the Portuguese's tenure.
On paper, Hull is the least formidable foe United could've had. The Tigers edged out a result Tuesday against Newcastle United, scoring an equaliser in extra time before winning on penalty kicks.
Liverpool and Southampton both secured 2-0 triumphs this week against Leeds and Arsenal, respectively. Jurgen Klopp's lot beat the Saints 6-1 in the quarter-finals of last year's competition.
